Fall Fun

It's been absolutely beautiful lately. Warm sunny days, cool crisp nights. I love when autumn is like this. The other day we headed to the farmer's market to enjoy our own little fall harvest.

We picked our own apples - McIntosh and Red Delicious.

Mmmmmm. I love apples. I'm a very happy girl with my bag filled to the very top with the yummy treats.

The bag held about 5 lbs of apples. I was kicking myself for not going for the bigger bag as I have a lot of apple recipes I want to try out. I also wish I had picked more McIntosh than Red Delicious because the latter is not recommended for baking.

It's a little early yet to make a jack o'lantern, but a nice whole pumpkin is festive too. As I picked through the pumpkins, my boyfriend snapped a picture of my pumpkins!

Today I got a chance to put those lovely apples to good use and made an apple pie. Would you like a piece? Apple turnovers are up next. Or maybe apple cobbler. And apple strudel muffins.

You know the saying, "American as apple pie"? Well, to keep with the theme, here are some stars and stripes. :)

Impressive baking skills, Pixie! Looks like you made the crust from scratch.

Every fall I pick a bag of apples, with ambitious plans in my head about all the yummy things I'll make. In reality, they wind up rotting in the cabinet, or else they get shoved to back of the freezer and become a crystal-encrusted mess.

I agree on steering clear of Red Delicious. I'm a big fan of the holy trinity of Northeastern apples: Macintosh, Macoun, and Empire.

More food porn, please!

I'm not a fan of the Red Delicious or Golden Delicious either. They usually seem a bit mushy and grainy to me. I like a little more crispness to my apples.

Oh..! What would I do when I caught you "stealing" my apples?
Over the knee with your shorts and panties down, so that all apples could see that some lovely buttocks were getting the same flushes on their cheeks as there are on the apples themselves...
Great piccies, Thanks!

I don't know much anout apples - at least the varieties you have in US - Coxes, Granny Smiths and Russetts for me! But the stripes on the last piccie look suspiciously like a rather well laid on caning! Whatever did you do to deserve that? Enjoy your apple pie and pumpkin soup!

~~Oh, those cheeks are apple red!

I love the Fall. It's my favorite season too.
Here, on the Island, the Fall is the best time....

...not just Halloween & apples & falling leaves; but, a moment of weather, so inviting (not too Hot; not too cold) you just gotta be outdoors!

~~You always manage to make me smile, Amber.

(Now, when I think of Fall...
I'll think of you & your apple-cheeks.

~~Have a great day today!)

Love your Fall photos, amber. :) Fall is my favorite season too. We have our canadian thanksgiving coming up and my birthday is also coming up soon. Then it's Halloween!! Yeah! Time to dress up and have fun!
Thank you for sharing your awesome pictures, amber. I really enjoy them.

That looks rather like a traditional English punishment to me, but the apple pie looks delicious.
I’m envious of your Autumn weather. It’s been rain and hail here today.

Pixie, fall is my favorite season too, although I'm guessing you don't get the same rush from college football that I do. But there are many great reasons to love fall.

And I don't know where you went in those pictures, somewhere in central Jersey I'm guessing, but I know you spend some time in the Philadelphia area and there is a wonderful apple orchard south of the city called Linvilla. I have many happy childhood memories from going there for fresh apples, cider, pies, etc. You might want to check it out.

Also the pie looks great. I hope the "stars and stripes" wasn't your boyfriend's review of your cooking skills.

Pixie,

The pies look yummy! I'll have a slice with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream & a cup of coffee.
Fall is also my favorite season. Right now the biggest country fair on the East coast is going on in Bloomsburg,Pa. Plenty of apple cider & apple dumplings waiting to be consumed.

Pixie,

Enjoyed seeing the picture of your pumpkins!! The ones on the ground weren't bad either.

Bottoms Up,

Goodness, I think that the NJ Chamber of Commerce should give you some sort of award. You are a wonderful ambassador for the Garden State.

Are there any Miss Apple Blossom pageants that you can enter?

Southern Expat - Thank you! Yes, the crust is made from scratch. I love to bake. Pies, cakes, brownies, muffins, cookies, eclairs ... welcome to Pixie's sugar shack.

More than 1/3 of the bag of apples have been eaten or made into a dessert in the last 3 days so I'm pretty confident few if any will go to waste here. :)

Dr. Ken - Hahaha. Thanks!

Mark - Maybe it's because they are super fresh right from the orchard, but even the Red Delicious we picked are very crisp. *crunch crunch crunch* I'm having one now. :-D

Funbun - Well, thankfully these apples were paid in full prior to picking them!

Winchester - Yes indeed, it was a caning. No particular reason for it, really. Just hadn't played in a bit and hadn't experienced the cane in quite a while.

Will - Indeed there are lots of reasons to love fall. I'm glad my apple cheeks fit well with the autumn color scheme.

007 - Thank you. :)

padme - So many reasons to celebrate! I can't wait for Halloween.

Steve - Yes, it was a traditionally English punishment, but nothing makes stripes better to go with the stars. Sorry to hear that your weather is so dreary. Hopefully it will clear up for you soon.

jhthree - Can't say that college football is my top reason for loving fall, but it does add to the overall excitement of the season.

I'm a bit further into the sticks than central Jersey so Philly is actually several hours away. But there is much to enjoy out this way as far as country living!

My stripes were definitely not earned for my cooking skills. My boyfriend snarfed down two big pieces last night and brought another with him to work today. I think it's safe to say he enjoyed it. :)

Tim - That's exactly how I served the pie last night. Edy's French vanilla ice cream and coffee. You should have pulled up a chair and joined us.

Prefectdt - Right now, the only two varieties ready for the picking at the local orchard were MacIntosh and Red Delicious. I'm sure if (when) we go back in a few weeks there will lots more to choose from, though neither of the ones you mentioned are grown around here.

Steve - Lol! Thanks.

Anonymous - I can't help it. :) There are so many places to discover and enjoy right in my proverbial backyard.

Ouch! That's some sacrifice in the name of patriotism. I'm expected a homemade apple treat next time we see each other. :)

expecting, that is. Gah! Another late night.

Just be careful. When you say you're interested in a nice autumn "canning," you need to pronounce the words carefully so someone doesn't, y'know, mishear you.

Just adore your outdoor pics. The pumpkin one is great! We were just saying the other day how fast the year has gone... Halloween is just around the corner now. Looks like you've got a head start too.
