A topic of discussion that frequently comes up in my Pixie-mail correspondence is what are my favorite and least favorite implements. Such a simple question, yet I find it difficult to answer. There isn’t one particular implement that I’ll happily hand to the nearest spanker for use on my bottom, nor is there one that I wish to drop into a pit of molten lava. This is not to say that I’m completely neutral with regard to any and all implements. I have my opinions and preferences, but they are far more subtle than “I hate ____” or “I love ____” and to add to the confusion, so much depends on how the implement is used as far as severity and accuracy of the spanker. But in any case, let’s take a look at the various implements I’ve experienced and see if I can sort out my feelings about each one.
I'm going to have to break this up into multiple posts because there are a lot of categories and sub-categories of implements to go through and I tend not to be brief in my discussions as it is. To start off, let's take a look at some of the classic domestic implements.
Hand - Sometimes I don’t think of the hand as an implement. Not because it isn’t effective, but simply because when I think of an implement, I think of a separate tool used for a specific purpose. But in the case of spanking, I suppose the hand is made into a temporary implement to be applied to a nearby naughty bottom.
The hand is special in that there is skin to skin contact between the spanker and spankee. There is not necessarily anything erotic or sensual about this contact (though it certainly could be if it’s that style of spanking being given), but there is almost a nurturing aspect to the hand to bottom connection. Also, the old phrase “this is going to hurt me more than it will hurt you” is somewhat accurate in this case as the spanker’s hand feels every punishing slap too. There is some level of comfort and safety in this as the spanker gets immediate sensory feedback on how hard each blow being delivered is.
The hand is also … errrmmm … handy since it’s always there. No having to go fetch it, find it, pick it, etc. It’s always at the ready.
The hand spankings themselves can vary greatly though depending on the size of the hand and the intensity in which they deliver the spanking. No two seem to be exactly alike. David Pierson has a notoriously stingy hand for example while Dallas’ hand is more like a thuddy paddle. Both will get your attention quickly though.
Hairbrush – Such a lovely domestic implement. It’s nice in that no one would know that it’s used far more on the bottom than on one’s head (unless you happen to be a bald gentleman with an extensive collection of brushes - then people might wonder).
Brushes can vary greatly depending on how heavy they are and what material they are made of. Plastic tends to be fairly light and stingy. Wooden ones can range from mildly stingy to very thuddy. I like being spanked with hairbrushes because I feel relatively safe when one is being used. It’s easy to aim, control, and land on target with reasonable accuracy – no wrapping or likelihood that bits other than the cheeks will be spanked accidentally.
Bath brush – The bath brush is like the hairbrush’s evil cousin. Often a bit bigger and heavier, they have a long handle making it easy to administer the spanking while standing or OTK if the spanker chokes up on the handle. No matter how it’s done, it always spells OUCH. I’d say comparing plastic hairbrushes to plastic bath brushes and wooden ones to wooden ones, the bath brush is about 1.5 times worse (heavier/scarier/ouchier) than a comparable hairbrush. Again, a lot depends on the person wielding it, but my anxiety level jumps a few notches when I see one of those suckers in my near future.
Note: The bath brush featured in this photo is the from Vermont Country Store. This one gets a rating of five out of five ouches from me.
Belt – Thin belts tend to leave searing lines of fire whereas wider belts spread the impact out a bit landing with a solid “whump”. I prefer the wider variety as “whump” is more my style, but also because the wider ones seem to be a bit easier to control leading to fewer accidental encounters with the meow meow. I like the even red stripes of a well executed belt strapping, though it seems that the cheek further from the spanker gets the brunt of the punishment. Attempts to even things out by striking only the closer cheek can sometimes result in the folded over end of the belt landing right along the very sensitive butt crack. Whether intentional or not, this always leads to a loud yelp followed by lots of "ImsosorryIllneverdoitagainIpromiseforeverandalwaysowieowieowies".
Spoon – The wooden spoon may not look like much, but it packs a nasty sting. We got a bit of feedback on a scene we did at Punished Brats that featured a wooden spoon spanking in which a couple of viewers felt that it wasn’t very hard and the reactions weren’t genuine. But I guarantee you that Holly would very much disagree with that statement and most likely if the ones commenting were in Holly’s position, they’d probably quickly come around to her way of thinking. A spoon may not make a loud sound upon impact and does not need to be swung from overhead to make a significant impact on the recipient’s bottom. The painful sting is felt superficially, but it is an intense burn that had poor Holly, who actually picked the spoon as her implement of choice for that scene, greatly regretting her decision.
Lots more implements and ouch factors to mull over, but they will just have to wait until the next installment. Up next time will be paddles of all sorts.

A topic that will always fascinate us. I do agree, it so much depends on who is handling the implement in what way, etc.
My favorite will remain the hand. For intimacy, direct contact with the skin and availability.
So if I happened to be Pixie's next door neighbour and she gave me reason to take her over the knee (which of course she would do on a daily basis) I would lower her panties and spank her lovely bare bottom with my bare hand...
The touch, the sound, the feel, the sting... It all adds up to a wonderful experience... :-)
Alas, I'm NOT her neighbour and I haven't spanked her yet, but one can always dream...
XXX, Funbun
Out of this posts toys I must say I have a soft spot for the belt, not only is it a good solid toy but you can always have one handily stored around your waist without freaking out the vanillas.
Prefectdt
One I'd like to try is a wooden drum stick: it's light, easy to control, precise, etc., a bit like a mini cane I would think.
Has anybody tried one?
I'd like to see 'shoe' type implements like the mule slipper, flip-flop and sandal. These are especially good if worn by the spanker or the spankee prior to the spanking.
Well Amber you'll have some of my paddles to add to your collection next time you see the Daniel's!
Funbun - I think the hand is a popular favorite for a number of reasons including those that you just described. :)
Prefectdt - Very portable and unlikely to cause vanillas to so much as bat an eye ... two major pros for the belt. Also, the sound of the belt snaking out from the pant loops and the metalic clinking of the buckle is enough to send chills down the spankee's spine.
smallhanded - I haven't experienced more than a passing swat from a drum stick, but while it can pack a nice sting, it doesn't have the flexibility or whippiness of a cane and no "whoosh" as it cuts through the air. It is however another improvised implement that would never arouse supsicion!
Anonymous - I have been spanked with a couple different types of shoes, though not exactly the styles you mentioned. I'll cover those that I have felt in a later post.
Poppa - Thanks Poppa! My bottom nervously awaits the formal introduction to your craftsmanship.
You always have such great insights on these topics. And it's so sweet to see all the pics that accompany the discussion. (BG) As a spanker, I usually prefer using wood brushes due to the heightened reaction they get, but lately one of Ian's London Tanner straps has been getting the bigger reactions. Thanks for another great entry.
Thank you for another most interesting post. Just a couple of comments: While bald gentlemen might just have no call for hairbrushes - what about clothes brushes? They are usually wood, slightly longer than hairbrushes and about the same width with a handle of similar length:-) And no self-respecting dreesing table or hallstand should be without one.
As to the belt: yes, it can be perhaps one-sided and difficult to direct towards the near cheek - but ask anyone who has played racquet sports (squash in particular - but probably tennis as well in the days before they started the double handed backhand) and the accuracy and force of the backhand stroke, directed from the other side of the victim's bottom can easily compensate for that. Have you ever had that experience?
Another timeless topic, and some very well-thought-out answers, Pixie.
I prefer to spank by hand. That's my favorite method, and it's rare for me to use anything else. And not only do you always have it with you, but there's never a problem taking it through airport security. :-)
The last implement I used was a wooden hairbrush--actually a clothesbrush. The handle is a bit longer, and makes it easier for me to use. And it certainly got the desired response from the lady on the receiving end!
Lastly--not to turn this into an ad for the London Tanner--but I do have a ruler strap and a boudoir strap made by Ian, both wonderful leather implements and very effective.
I look forward to your further posts in regard to "weapons of ass destruction". :-)
Dr. Ken
007 - What kind of strap are you using? There are so many different types and sizes - just a look at Ian's site proves that fact.
Winchester - Ah yes, the clothes brush. Richard Windsor has a German clothes brush in his personal collection ... and interestingly enough, he is rather devoid of hair. ;-) I met with his mean little brush one time and was not eager to have another encounter! That thing stung soooo badly.
I have not experienced a spanking delivered by a top using backhanded strokes. That is a good suggestion, though I would not be one to volunteer for target practice while the spanker is honing his or her skills!
Dr. Ken - If your clothesbrush is anything like Mr. Windsor's, I think I'll steer clear! My boyfriend just purchased a ruler strap from Ian at the SL party and I think it's great. Of course he prefers this super stingy wooden boudoir paddle that really gets me kicking and yelping. Boooo. :-P
Pixie,
It sounds like your boyfriend has excellent taste. :-)
i bought my hairbrush (clothesbrush) years ago from Nu-West. (I don't think they sell them anymore.) On it, it says, "Made in Korea",so I'm guessing it's not the same as Mr. Windsor's--except, perhaps, in effectiveness. (At least, the last lady who felt it sure seemed to think so....)
Dr. Ken
I also like all shoe type implements, espcially flat leather sole flip flops. They really pack a sting and if the spanker is wearing them, all the better.
