Happy New Year everyone! It's amazing to think of all that happened in 2007 and yet how quickly it all passed by. There were lots of changes in my life both personally and professionally that happened within the last year that I'm not sure I could have easily predicted on January 1st of '07. It will be interesting to see what this coming year brings to us.
As I sit here still groggy from the night before, I have a bayberry candle burning for good luck. Later my boyfriend and I are due over at his parents' house for a dinner of pork and sauerkraut - another new year's good luck tradition. :-/ Why couldn't it be good luck to eat chicken and broccoli? Or better yet, pizza? Mmmm. I may need to get a slice of lucky mushroom pizza on the way home.
Also, solely for good luck, maybe I could manage to get a small spanking today. I've heard of spankings given on the Chinese New Year to bring good fortune, so why not one to start 2008 on the right foot ... or right cheek? Someone had suggested that the New Year's spanking ought to be like a birthday spanking and require one spank per year, plus one to grow on. But 2009 smacks? That's a little more luck than I think I could handle at one time. :)

I can't say I knew it was a tradition for good luck, but I had a nice saurkraut and dumplings with pork hocks dinner at my Sister's Sunday night. Who knew?
(I also just got a paper cut opening an envelope, so I'm already a little suspicious about the whole "good luck" angle....)
As for the New Year's spanking, even I would say that 2009 swats would be a bit much. Maybe break it down to just the last two numbers....You know, "Happy 2000 and 1..2..3..4..5...6...7...8...and one more for luck!"
Anything more than that...you have to earn for yourself. :-)
Which, I'm sure, is no problem for you at all....
