I had asked Peanut if she'd like to join me on the charity walk especially since the funds are going to support the same shelter I had adopted her from, but she just laughed at me and went back to napping in her rocking chair.
So I borrowed my friend's dog, Shadow, to accompany me instead. She was so eager to go, she even offered to drive.
She was very well behaved even around all of the other dogs. Several people had their canine friends along and the shelter also brought every dog available for adoption out for volunteers to walk.
Waiting following registration was the hardest part. Both of us were eager to get going. Finally after an hour or so of milling around, chatting with other participants (me), and sniffing lots of tails (Shadow), it was time to head out. Although we started towards the back of the pack, we were soon one of the ones in the lead.

Well done nice to see that you are doing your bit for our furry friends.
Peanut should have gone too, Lazy puss.

Yeah, not so sure that it's a good idea for Shadow to drive--but you can just tell him that he can help you navigate, because Dog is your co-pilot.
Just catching up after a spectacular Back to School Florida Moonshine Party.
Regarding the Walk for Animals, you are just such a nice person, Pixie.
So, you basically deserve mild spankings for being a good girl. Of course, mild is in the mind of the person administering them while watching your reactions to them. I know of a perfect hairbrush for your kind of girl.
I have been drinking some killer root beers lately. If you are going down the soda road, root beer is about as healthy as you can go, and root beer tastes just fine after a glass of water. I often drink lots of water before and during exercising, then come home to a frosted mug of premium root beer. Heaven.

You're so sweet to help out! It must have meant a lot to you to support the shelter that brought you both(?) of your beloved feline buddies. I hope you drank lots of water and didn't just give it all to Shadow.
2Good
Pixie,
I hope you got a good walk in and took plenty of water to drink, for both you and Shadow.
And I can't believe that lazy cat of yours...he should be ashamed of himself...but knowing cats the way I do, he probably isn't! :)
Cyberdad
Aw, fab - a post with animals in! Good for you, Pixie! I hope you raised lots of dosh for them. :)
xx
I just have to ask... how much water did you drink before and after this walk Lil' girl?
That is sooooooooo cute! Great pictures, all of them. :) Glad nobody got wet... that would have been a nice, smelly ride home.
Yesterday, Christians celebrated St Francis day at church. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, so everyone brings their pets to church to be blessed by priests. You should have seen the assortment of Maltese, terriers, and huskies we had yesterday. Shadow would have been a very welcome addition. :-)
Thanks for another great update, Pixie. Hope next weekend end with Claire Fonda goes well. Give her my best while she's giving you hers. ;-)
How ungrateful of Peanut! And how generous of your friend to allow you to dog-walk Shadow - hiring dog-walkers can be very expensive they tell me. A lovely entry - lovely piccies - especially the last with Shaddow straining at the leash. And a lovely Autumn day for your walk - "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" as it is. Well done.
Prefectdt - Thank you. :) And about Peanut, I agree! I would have even been willing to cart her around in her favorite backpack so she wouldn't get her little paws wet. backpack
Tim - Shadow eventually moved over and allowed me to drive. She insisted on sitting shotgun though.
Brad - You party animal you! If you're thinking of the same hairbrush I am, I'm not sure it knows how to give a mild spanking. :-P
2Good - Yep, I adopted both Peanut and Misha from the shelter. Misha was absolutely nowhere to be found. She didn't even want to be bothered with such silly questions about long walks. Shadow snubbed the water that was offered to her. Am I rubbing off on her?
Cyberdad - The event coordinators had bottled water available for participants and the dogs, but Shadow declined all offers. I think she was holding out for a "Bark's" Root Beer or a Diet "Pupsi". :)
Peanut definitely has no shame. After a long morning of sitting in the rocking chair, she had to then sprawl out on the bed for a good nap.
Amy - I raised a fair chunk of change. I wish it had been more, but every dollar counts. I'll be certain to participate in every fundraising event for the shelter I can in the future too.
Poppa - Errrmm, ummmm, let's see, multiply ... carry the one ... uhhh ... 0.0 :-/ It was misty though so I may have inhaled some water.
Chloe - Shadow was a little stinky and muddy despite there being no rain, but I was very thankful she didn't roll in deer poop like some of the other dogs. :)
007 - That must be one noisy but very cute ceremony!
Clare arrives on Friday. It's going to be a fun weekend.
Winchester - My friend was going to walk with me as well, but when I arrived, she was still in her pjs. Apparently Peanut must have called her up and told her walking that early in the morning is overrated. As you can see, Shadow was only too eager to get moving. My kind of pup. :)
Great post and pictures, too, Pixie.
Yes, cats tend not to be joiners. I've noticed that too.
Inhaled some mist? Well Ms. Amber sounds like your BF needs to break in your presents with a long firm session!
Great post Pixie.
I must say I really love your 'vanilla' posts very much: they really show that folks like us obviously have tons of other interests and passions.
It is inspiring. :-)
Dave
jhthree - yes, cats tend to be very independent. That is until you make a nice turkey sandwich and suddenly they need to be involved.
Poppa - The presents have definitely gone for a few test drives!
Dave - Thanks. :) Glad you enjoy my vanilla side too. While it may be spanking that initially unites us, it's always so nice to be able to relate to each other on many common interests.
