On The Home Front

Well, next week is the big Shadow Lane party and while I'm busy working on the items for the Vendors Fair, fussing over what to pack, worrying about what my bottom is in for when I shoot with Veronica Daniels on Friday, and trying to reschedule our return flight home so that we don't have to leave at 3:00am on Sunday morning, I have an even bigger and more stressful event coming up on Monday. We are scheduled to close on the house one week from today ... and then hop on a plane to Vegas two days later.

My head is swimming at the moment as there is so much left to do! Unfortunately we are still trying to argue some points with the seller regarding the proper corrective action of a safety hazard in the home, but do not anticipate anything that would negate the deal and so I'm trying to get everything in order to make the move as smooth as possible. I'm up to my eyeballs in paint chips trying to figure out what will work well with the rest of the decor and hopefully completely cover the current bedroom wall colors -

Vampire's Delight

and Miracle-Gro Green.
(Yes, these are the actual colors, cutout from pictures I took of the bedrooms.)

Still need to find a dining table so that we won't be eating on the floor ... and it would be a good idea to see about getting a refrigerator so that as we sit on the floor, we'll have some food. :)

I tried to get my phone service transferred and found out that was not possible! Apparently I'm really moving out to the sticks and will need to get special service installed. Why do I envision something like this? While there's much to do with the new house, there's also a few things that need to be put in order at my apartment. Halfway done in repairing that pesky hole in the wall that my foot somehow managed to create on a particularly bad night a couple years ago. Need to either sand off or find a matching paint color to cover up the decorative trim I painted around my mirror. And I need to finish up tossing out all the stuff that I've managed to acquire over the few years I've lived here that I really don't need. I must say that already my closets have never been so tidy.

This is certainly going to be an interesting venture and September is going to be one crazy month, but I'm looking forward to it and trying to keep a good balance so that I don't get too stressed out. I'm off to the gym for some cardio stress relief, then plan to accomplish another good chunk of my to-do list and PB work, and later on I hope to start working on a Back To School themed post in honor of the season and the surprisingly crisp cool weather that's hit my area over the weekend.

We have a very busy Pixie on our hands it seems! Don't forget to pack your magic dust; I'm sure that'll come in handy once Veronica's done with you, heh.

Wow Pixie, you amaze me my dear, I can't believe you even found the time to post this!

First off, best wishes to your bottom half for this Friday and next week, heh. Also want to wish you the best of luck finding a better flight, with no lost luggage this time around of course. And hopefully your trip to Vegas will be a great one, with much relaxation and slot machines and cocktails, heh.

Whoa. Those are some colors! heh, well as it is known, white never fails to impress, but somehow I feel our Pixie isn't a neutral sorta girl, so that could be a toughie, take it from someone who got the bright idea that painting four rooms, wallpapering two others, taking up two separate rugs and putting down both tile and hardwood all in one sitting, you may just want to get a paint ball gun and have at it, heh.

A Pixie surrounded by trees and is still in need of a table? Hmmm… Heh, but I'm sure you'll come up with something, the fridge however, yeah that might need to take top priority, heh.

Oh I hate that about phone service myself, it's why I believe I've lived in the same house for the past *mumble* odd years, heh.

Pixie you are something else, all this hard work, how you keep going it is beyond me. Wonderful idea, stress is the last thing you need to be worrying about.

Oh I wish I could be there helping you clean, hehe, I love yard sales and such, and I'd probably take most if not all of whatever it is you don't want, probably not a good thing for me, but hey, another Pixie's junk--

But dear girl, I really do wish you all the best, keep yourself in good health, it's so easy to forget about taking care of yourself when you get as busy as you've been and will be, hopefully whatever lose ends will be tied up rather quickly and you'll be in your brand new home before you know it.

Take care and be blessed.

One word: IKEA.

If you guys don't have these around your area, it's worth the trip. Bring your friend's truck or SUV. They have amazing stuff and it's cheap!!

Word of warning about the phone lines. I cannot say how it is in USA but when I moved into a rural area here in Belgium I found out that the phone companies are losing a lot of cash on their hard line services and so are very reluctant to spend money replacing old phone lines in smaller communities. Where I live when the weather is bad you are lucky to hold an ADSL computer connection for more than two minutes at a time. Bad news for me but disaster time for you in your buisness. Do not make the same mistake as me and tie yourself into a long term contract, when my contract is up I am going totaly mobile wireless.

Pixie,

Thanks for taking the time in your very busy life to write on your blog. Major life events seem to have a way a clustering, I'm not sure why.

I'm sure that you won't get stuck with 2 tins cans and a string. Surely, for you, they will upgrade it to gold wire for the better conductivity {grin}.

Oh, and fridge first. I'd rather eat sitting on the floor than have a couch and nothing to eat. (on the other hand, if no couch, there would be nothing to throw you over the back of to redden your bottom....{grin}

Good luck getting everything done.

great blog site

there is a paint call kiltz
that will be the only thing that
will cover those colors on the wall
you apply that to the wall
then paint your colors that you pick out over kilz

The Miracles of Vampires Delight? Wow (!) What did you buy..?

I'm sure you will be able to find out what colors are best for you.
(White - Pink - Red... :-)

Just look at all the stuff you collected over the past few years and it will convince you that the new house will soon be filled with ALL you need.

Most important items are there already... You and your b/f... :-)

Love and XXX, Funbun

Pixie,

Chloe's right. There's an IKEA in South Philly & I believe there is one in Plymouth Meeting.

Pixie:

Don't fry your brains getting through the next month, that's what bottoms are for.

We just renovated our kitchen and dining room. Have unloaded our dining room table to our son, but still have some Scan teak furniture, a dining room sideboard for dishes and a living room glass display and storage cabinet, with lots of life that we are going to give up at a yard sale for the price of a meal and good company at Chili's.

Enjoy the hectic pace of your next month. Some day you will look back on it and wonder how you got through it.

Lee - Yep, I am a busy Pixie! I actually am in favor of neutral colors as we are going with the country decor (fits the style house and the area in general) but my boyfriend thinks all white will make it look too stark so I'm going for very light neutral tones as a compromise. I think I do have some good junk and whatever I can give away or donate I am. The rest will be left for dumpster diving. :)

Chloe - We will definitely be making a trip to IKEA at some point. We hope to get the major items elsewhere but will be going there for things like end tables and night stands. I hear they have a lovely wooden spoon collection there too. ;-)

Dave - thank you!

Prefectdt - My boyfriend has relatives that live in the same area so I chatted with them about the service. Apparently the way to go is to get the phone, cable, and internet all in one package. His sister telecommutes as well and says she has had no issues with service (knock on wood). I'm sorry to hear that your internet is affected by the weather!! I think I'd develop a nervous tic every time it rained if that was the case for me. :)

Mark - You're right about things tending to cluster and also about the fridge being a priority. While we will be without our new furniture for a little while at first, we will at least have my old stuff from my apartment to make do in the meantime. I can always be tossed over the back of my current couch ... and then there is always that woodshed in the backyard ...

Anonymous - Kilz will definitely be on my Home Depot list!

007 - Thanks 007. Nothing soothes the savage Pixie like bubblegum. :)

2Good - Thank you for the suggestion!! I will definitely take a picture of my apple doodles. :) I hope to get the chance to post tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

Funbun - I'm still trying to pick out the bedding first so I can pick up on a color from the pattern there to decide the tone of the walls. Something nice and light ... and lots and lots of Kilz!

Tim - We plan to head over to the IKEA in Newark. It's still a ways away from me, but the closest one around as we live in North Jersey. They have lots of neat stuff in their catalog so it should be fun.

Brad - No doubt I'll get through. While it is stressful, it's a good stress. And I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities for good stress relievers at SL. :)

Pixies should have Pastel shades - but all coujld be confused if you go with amber! (Not a colour for decor!)

Seriously though, I hope your very busy schedule carries out without too much stress. They say that moving home is the fourth most stressful thing in life after bereavement, divorce, or losing yhour job through retirement or redundacy.

So go for it Pixie while you can! Enjoy the fact, and enjoy the prospect - and enfure whatever V. D may have in store while you fanatasice about the future!

God bless you.

Making changes like you're making are always stressful, but rewarding. Sounds like you've been and will continue to be extremely busy! Those colors. EEEEP! Neutral tones much better. Have a blast at Shadowlane. Hopefully I'll be able to make it next year.

Pixie--
Just take it one thing at a time and it can't overwhelm you. And it feels so good to scratch something off your list....and pretty soon the list grows short....
in other words, you're gonna be just fine!
Time for a brief break--I just saw Endart's second drawing of you, "Nice Warm Pixie". Very nice!
You've now been immortalized twice. Congratulations!
Ok, break's over...back to work, young lady...
